Kind Regards

When my husband and I decided to look for a doula, we knew that we would have to find just the right match for our personalities. We knew that we needed someone who was open and supportive to the fact that I might want an epidural, but who would also help us if I decided to go for a completely natural birth. We wanted someone who was extremely knowledgeable about all facets of pregnancy/labor/delivery and could provide us with all of the information that we did not have time to cram into our brains. We wanted someone who was strong enough to guide us, but who would not be overbearing or bossy. And, we needed someone who had calm, centered and loving energy, but could also laugh at our stupidest jokes–Someone who took her role in our most sacred, special event very seriously, while not taking herself too seriously!

We were BEYOND lucky that we found Robyn! Recommended to us by our childbirth educator (who was an extremely seasoned and popular doula), Robyn was the absolute perfect fit for all of our wants and needs. I had a very long week of prodromal labor and Robyn not only helped to keep me sane, but guided me through what was happening in my body and gave me various exercises and other “tricks of the trade” to get our little guy moving. After my week of on-and-off contractions, Robyn came over and gently adjusted my hips. And although we cannot be 100% sure that it was her magic touch that did the trick, all we know is that I went into full-fledged labor just an hour after her visit. She also took great care of my husband, guiding him in the best ways to actively support me, which in-turn gave him the experience that he hoped to have as my partner. My husband says that he does not understand how anyone (moms AND dads-to-be!) get through the birth experience without an amazing doula. I will be forever grateful that we had Robyn by our side on the best and most magical day of my life. I (obviously) HIGHLY recommend her!

It is overwhelming how many doulas there are to choose from in NYC, so I was grateful when we were referred to Robyn, and she felt like a perfect match from the very beginning. We met a few times late in my pregnancy and Robyn helped me to feel prepared for the big day. As my due date approached, however, I was having a very difficult time with three days of painful early labor that would not progress. Robyn suspected the baby was posterior. After arriving at our home, she led and supported me through a series of postures referred to as The Miles Circuit that have been known to help speed things along. Within a few hours after completing the series, I had finally entered active labor and was able to go to the hospital. One of my few birth preferences was to hopefully avoid Pitocin. I am convinced that had Robyn not assisted me through the spinning babies techniques, I would have ultimately had to have been induced. In the end, Robyn was right. The baby was delivered posterior! Both my partner and I felt Robyn was an asset during labor. She has all the qualities you would want in a birth assistant; non-judgmental, supportive, intuitive, knowledgeable, calming, endlessly attentive…but also someone you want to keep as a friend afterwards.

We were referred to Robyn by two of my husband’s coworkers who both really enjoyed working with her. I spoke with some other doulas, but we enjoyed our initial interaction with Robyn and that her pricing was very reasonable. She came over to our place twice prior to the birth, gave us several great resources and tips to prepare for our birth each time, and she made sure to answer any questions we had. I loved that I could just text her with any question I had regarding birth/pregnancy/etc, and she would be quick to respond. She was very understanding of whatever situation I was in and never belittled my feelings or silly questions. I cannot say how she would be during labor since I actually ended up never going through labor (I ended up having to have an emergency c-section prior to even beginning contractions). She did come as soon as she heard I was being operated on, stayed with me for several hours after my daughter’s birth, coaching me on breastfeeding, and was also an emotional support for me since my birth experience was the exact opposite of what I had hoped and planned for. I was glad to have the postpartum visit as well since I had so many questions after arriving home, and I still contact her even weeks after birth with questions about breastfeeding, what’s normal for sleeping, etc. It’s just great to have the extra support, and Robyn was such a sweetheart to work with. I was hesitant at first about getting a doula, but I was so happy I did once we started the whole process of preparing for birth. I know that I didn’t get to experience a doula fully with labor and giving birth, but I do not regret getting one nor having Robyn as my doula. I would highly recommend her to all my friends as well!

Robyn helped me through the most intense 24 hours of my life. Prior to my daughter’s birth, she got to know me and my preferences, then she helped me prepare for what was ahead. During the birth, she held the space for me and held me when I just needed to cry. Her energy is very calm and supportive. Robyn relishes the birth process, loves mothers, empowers fathers, and celebrates life. You feel like you can be true to yourself, without judgment. You will be honored. Her gentle way of speaking, her pleasant touch, her reminders and mantras were all pivotal to me having a wonderful homebirth.
